In advance of the 2025 Literature Festival, which will be held in venues across the city, the festival poetry competition is once again open for entries.

The competition has a 1st place prize of £400, a 2nd place prize of £150, and three 3rd place prizes of £25, as well as an additional prize of £50 for the best poem by someone living in a WV postcode.

Applicants can send poems, on any subject, up until midnight on December 31, with poet Holly Magill judging the main competition, while the WV postcode prize will be chosen by Dave Pitt, associate artist at Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre.

Wolverhampton Council cabinet member for city development, jobs and skills, Councillor Chris Burden, said: “The festival has been a huge success over the years, and it is growing more and more.

“Poetry speaks volumes, and we look forward to welcoming all entries into the competition - I wish everyone the best of luck.”

The fee for entering a poem to the competition is £4, or three poems for £10.
