Bridgnorth Dementia Support Group is run by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, with its members attending Greenfields Court community centre just off Innage Lane, in the north of the town.

The group welcomes people living with dementia and their carers and offers fun and interesting activities as well as providing emotional support and information in a safe and welcoming environment.

“It’s a super little group, but we could really do with more members,” said Gina Shirley, Wellbeing Services Support Officer. “But we have a lot of fun and people seem to get a lot out of it.”

Chris, 81 and his wife Diane, aged 78, are members of the group.

Chris, a carer for his wife, said: "Honestly, the people who run this group are lovely. We used to go to the group when it was held at the other venue but that building was a bit cold and the acoustics were terrible there. This is much better. And Diane loves coming here.

“Diane was diagnosed ten years ago,” Chris added.  “We have a good chat here but we also enjoy the activities, arts and crafts and so on. We enjoy everything that happens here.

“We live just a few houses away from here, so this is very convenient for us. Diane used to be an auxiliary nurse. She also set up a team at Bridgnorth Baptist Church, visiting older people in their homes."

The Bridgnorth group meets the third Tuesday of each month, from 2pm to 4pm, supporting local people with dementia and memory difficulties, their families, carers and friends.

To book your place at the next meeting of the group, simply call Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin on 01743 233 123 and select option 3 for the Wellbeing Services Team or send us an email – enquiries@ageukstw.org.uk.
