Black Country drivers left facing delays after collision on motorway
Motorists heading south on the M5 were left facing more than an hour of delays after a collision.
Drivers faced delays of up to 30 minutes after a collision between Junction 5 for Droitwich and Junction 6 for Worcester which left the motorway closed at around 5.27am.
A team from National Highways West Midlands worked to clear the area following the collision.
A spokesperson said: "Traffic is stopped on the M5 in Worcestershire southbound between Junction 5 for Droitwich and Junction 6 for Worcester due to a collision.
"Delays of at least 30 minutes above normal travel times, please allow extra time for your journey. Thank you for your patience."
A further update at 5.39am informed motorists that two lanes had been reopened and traffic released, but warned up continued delays of up to 30 minutes.
A further updated said: "Traffic has been released on the M5 in Worcestershire southbound between Junction 5 for Droitwich and Junction 6 for Worcester due to a collision.
"Lane 1 of 3 remains closed and there are delays of at least 30 minutes above normal travel times, please allow extra journey time. Thank you for your patience."
A final update an hour later at 6.38am informed motorists that three lanes had been reopened on the motorway, with one remaining closed for long term works and delays of around 20 minutes.
The statement said: "3 lanes are now open on the M5 in Worcestershire southbound between Junction 5 for Droitwich and Junction 6 for Worcester, following an earlier collision.
"1 lane remains closed for long term works. Delays of approx. 20 minutes above normal travel times, please allow extra journey time."
