Schoolgirl to brave Mount Snowdon with cello for Compton Care
A daring young musician is set to brave new heights when she scrambles to the peak of Mount Snowdon with her instrument in tow.
Harriet Enefer is set to climb the Welsh mountain with her trusted cello strapped to her back to raise cash for Compton Care.
The 10-year-old plans to perform four pieces of music once she reaches the summit, as part of the fundraiser which will also commemorate her late grandmother who was cared for by the charity.
Harriet, who will tackle the hike with her father John, said: “Compton helped my Nanny before she died five years ago so I wanted to do something to help them and give back to them for looking after her.
“They gave my Nanny her dignity when she was really poorly and my Daddy the opportunity to be her son, not her carer.
"Compton Care helped my family at a very difficult time and now at the five year anniversary of my Nanny’s passing I would like to raise funds to say a huge thank you and help them to continue to support other people who, like my nanny, really need it.”
The Newbridge Preparatory School pupil will climb the Llanberis Path in aid of Compton Care, formerly known as Compton Hospice, on September 21.
Harriet, who also sings in the Imagination Children’s Choir alongside Compton Choir, has been playing the cello for two years and is currently working towards her Grade 3 exam.
The Wolverhampton youngster, who has raised more than £400 of her £500 target, said: “I love to climb mountains and I’ve climbed Snowdon twice previously and Scafell Pike once so it seemed like a good idea to combine the two.
“I know it’s going to be tough but I’m confident I can do it. The cello is going to be heavy and I am sure my legs are going to hurt at some point.
"I’ve been building up my muscles to make sure I’m ready for the challenge. I recently did a 5k swim in 2 hours and 10 mins and I’ve been doing a lot of cycling and running with my dad.
“Once I reach the top of the summit I will be playing four musical pieces, including Bach’s air and a Slovenian dance song, which I am really looking forward to."
