Sikh families are set to march from Willenhall to Wednesfield to celebrate the new year festival of Vaisakhi on Sunday.

Procession walkers will leave the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Walsall Road at 10am, arriving at the Well Lane gurdwara of the same name at about 2pm.

City councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, who represents Wednesfield South and is one of the procession organisers, said: "I'm very excited as always. I hope the weather plays a good part."

Last year, thousands took part in the procession marking the birth of the Khalsa - the name given to the Sikh community.

A string of road closures will be in place on Sunday, with drivers warned to expect delays as the procession passes through the region.
