Black Country and Staffordshire battered by snow as 'mini Beast from the East' sweeps through
Drivers are being warned to take extra care and only travel where essential after the Black Country and Staffordshire was battered by snow.
The mini Beast from the East that swept through the region last night has left many roads icy and covered in snow.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice across the region today, which will be in place until 11.55pm tonight.
It has warned the maximum temperature for the day is 0C (32F) and to expect this morning to be bitterly cold with heavy snow showers.
Into the afternoon the snow should become lighter and more isolated, with some brighter spells developing. But it will remain windy and bitterly cold throughout the day.
The bad weather is not expected to continue tomorrow.
Gritters were out across Staffordshire last night but the county council has warned some roads are still difficult to drive through and it is now sending out snow ploughs.
Drayton Manor Park in the county has taken the decision not to open today.
Alton Towers already took the decision on Friday night not to open any of its rollercoasters across the weekend.
As well as Staffordshire, gritters have been out across the Black Country in an attempt to keep the region's roads usable.
National Express is reporting that a number of its bus routes have been amended because of the snow, including the number 45 from West Bromwich to Walsall.

Birmingham Airport is open but delays and disruption are still possible.
It has advises all passengers to check before they travel.
Bewdley Museum and cafe is not opening today because of the snow.
