West Midlands Ambulance Service was stunned after the note was left on the windscreen saying: "You may be saving lives but don't park your van in a stupid place and block my drive."

Ambulance staff had been helping a man in Birmingham on Friday night when the note was left.

The male had been taken from an addiction rehabilitation centre to Heartlands Hospital after going into cardiac arrest.

Hospital officials confirmed the critically-ill patient had died.

Following a wave of support from the public on social media, the ambulance service thanked people for their support.

In a statement, the paramedics added: “We still can’t believe it, and it appears you can’t either. Leaves us feeling really rather #sad – thanks again for all your support.”

Express & Star readers shared their disbelief at the note with many asking for more compassion and understanding.

Stuart Gotsall wrote: "You can block my drive anytime in order to save lives, in fact I'll help carry your kit if it helps.

"We need less moaning and more pulling together."

Jon Bradley said: "The disappointing thing is that the person being attended to is obviously a neighbour."

Si Parkes said: "Absolute disgrace. How about if it was them that needed the ambulance. It would be different then."

Fellow reader Steph Allman added: "Disgusting and very representative of the 'what about me I'm more important' culture that seems to be the current climate."

And Debbie Jones commented: "I'm sure where the paramedics park their vehicle is not their main priority when they are focusing on saving a life. Their job is hard enough."
