Chris Brookes, aged 22, was socialising with friends in the city centre on the evening of Saturday, October 28, and had visited a number of pubs and clubs.

However he had 'wandered off' alone, and was later found in the bus lane of the ring road below Wolverhampton Bus Station after apparently falling, the inquest heard.

Dudley-born Mr Brookes, of Tame Road, Oldbury, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with a massive head injury in the early hours of Sunday morning but despite doctors' efforts to save him, he died.

Flowers left at the footbridge

Dozens of tributes to the father-of-one, who was expecting his second child in January, have been laid at the footbridge.

Black Country coroner Zafar Siddique adjourned the inquest, held in Oldbury, until December 21 to allow further investigations to take place.

The funeral of the former Coseley School pupil, who worked as an assembler at Elta Fans, Kingswinford, will be held on November 29.
