Brave fundraisers to tackle scorching fire walk for Wolverhampton charity
DARING fundraisers are set to brave the scorching heat as they dash across burning lumps of coals for vulnerable women and children.
A troupe of volunteers from Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre will tackle a piping hot Fire Walk to raise cash for charity The Haven.
They will cast away their fears to stride across coal reaching 648 degrees Celsius to support the city-based refuge for families affected by domestic abuse and homelessness.
Fundraising manager at the Grand Theatre John Harrison said: "We are excited to support The Haven in this fundraising challenge.
"The Haven offers vital services to women and children in Wolverhampton and the Grand Theatre is always willing to help and support its important work in any way we can.
"In the past, we have raised money for the charity from donation bucket collections during our pantomime seasons and we look forward to working with The Haven on new projects in the future too.
"All charities - including the Grand Theatre - are facing a challenging future, however, we believe that by supporting each other’s efforts through our own unique positions to raise awareness of our missions, we can ensure a bright future for us all."
Supporters of the Waterloo Road-based charity will see if they can handle the heat when they unite for the fundraiser at Wombourne's The Round Oak on November 10.
Brave fundraisers will receive an hour's safety training led by UK Firewalk on the day to help prepare participants for the challenge.
Senior community fundraiser at The Haven Jade Secker said more fearless volunteers were needed to sign up for the fundraiser.
She added: "We are really excited for our upcoming Fire Walk and are pleased to see it feature in a successful year of challenge events at The Haven.
"To have companies like the Grand Theatre involved is great for city partnerships and really shows the community coming together to raise much needed awareness for domestic abuse.
"With events like these we are able to continue to offer vital support to those who need it in Wolverhampton."
The registration fee is £25, with teams of five receiving a 25 per cent discount, and there is a £100 minimum sponsorship requirement.
