The Olympic Bronze medallist made a special visit to Wolverhampton's Civic Centre to open the new WV Cafe on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old decided to pop along to the venue after being invited by mother-in-law Lynn Reid, who works at the ground floor cafe.

The Wolverhampton-born athlete, who trains at Halesowen's Earls Gym, said: "It's a real honour to be invited to Wolverhampton council's new cafe. I was pleased to help when my mother-in-law Lynn suggested it.

"She and her team are looking forward to working at the new venue. I enjoyed a wonderful lunch and would recommend visitors to the civic centre or the wider city to call in and try it out.

"There's something for everyone and I'm particularly impressed with the salad bar."

The new cafe offers a selection of refreshments, alongside a salad and fruit bar, for the hundreds of daily visitors and employees at the council headquarters.

Sandwiches and sweet treats, as well as hot and cold food, will be served alongside drinks from Costa.

Mother-in-law Ms Reid said: "This is a really exciting time for the catering team. The new cafe has so much more to offer customers, it's a great place to work.

"I'm so proud that my son-in-law has helped us promote it. He's a true Wulfrunian and he's achieved so much - it's so fitting that he came to help us tell the people of Wolverhampton about this fantastic new facility."

Kristian, who is originally from Wednesfield and now lives in Wimblebury with wife Gemma, is also a Silver World Championship medallist, and won Gold at 2015's European Championships and 2014's Commonwealth Games.
