'My son was left looking like Wladimir Klitschko': Mother's agony after son attacked on way to school
A schoolboy cycling to lessons was forced to hit a curb before falling to the floor, leaving him with injuries his father has described as similar to a boxer after a fight.
Furious Gary Johns, 46, says three children blocked his 12-year-old son Daniel's way to school in Great Barr, causing him to fall from his bike.
Mr Johns has reported the incident involving his son, a pupil at Q3 Academy in Great Barr, to the police.
He has described Daniel's horrific injuries as looking just like Wladimir Klitschko's face the morning after his heavyweight bout with Anthony Joshua in April. He was taken to Sandwell Hospital for treatment before returning home.
He said: "The pictures look bad enough but in the flesh they're even worse. I remember seeing the Joshua fight and seeing Klitschko's eye the day after and Daniel looked just like it.
"We first feared he had dislocated his eye socket but fortunately that wasn't the case and it's just bruising round the eye as well as his knee and ankle.
"This just isn't acceptable."
Daniel was cycling to his friends house on his way into school at 7.45am on Thursday when the incident happened.
Gary from Great Barr, Birmingham wants West Midlands Police to facilitate a meeting for him to speak directly to the children's parents and put an end to his son's misery.
Gary said: "On the Thursday morning he rides to his friend's and on that morning the three children seemed to blocked his way on this road so he went into the curb to try and avoid them which sent him flying off and into a wall."
Mark Arnull, head of school at Q3 Academy, said: “We have met Mr Johns several times regarding this incident. We encourage Mr Johns to go to the police so this incident is fully investigated. Beyond that we can’t comment on an ongoing investigation.”
