Appeal to raise £5k for cancer-stricken Noah aged 10
The family of a cancer-stricken youngster left wheelchair-bound after life-saving therapy abroad is calling on fundraisers to help them create unforgettable memories.
Noah Bailey-Moloney faces a gruelling battle to walk again after medics discovered a cancerous tumour fused to his spine three months ago.
The 10 year old is currently recovering from intense treatment in the US after unexpectedly being rushed across the Atlantic for nine weeks.
His family are now calling on the community to get behind the Bilston youngster and help raise £5,000 so he can spend time doing things he loves while fighting the disease.
Uncle Edward Bailey said the family have been under a lot of pressure since receiving news of Noah’s diagnosis in May, with cash helping them cope with unforeseen costs.
The 31 year old added: “You don’t expect to see him running around one day and a few days later being in a wheelchair. His last few months have been hospital appointments and lying in a bed. The doctors don’t know how long he will be in a wheelchair for – it could be for the rest of his life. He has been a little star. He has just taken it all in his stride. He has knocked it on the chin and is just fighting it.”
Medics at Birmingham Children’s Hospital uncovered the large tumour when Noah began experiencing pain after he had been diagnosed with scoliosis – a medical condition where the spine curves. The Villiers Primary School pupil had life-saving surgery for 11 hours but doctors were unable to remove part of the tumour fused to his spine as it would have left him paralysed.
Noah, who lives with his family in Clement Road, became wheelchair-bound within three days and was forced to stay at the hospital for a month.
The youngster, who has five siblings, flew out to Florida with his mother and grandfather for proton therapy treatment soon after.
Mr Bailey, of Bushbury, said it would be fantastic to reach the fundraising target, with plans to donate some of the cash to the Birmingham hospital.
The business admin worker at Bilston’s Contract Beads Ltd said more than £850 has been raised so far, adding: “He’s gone through so much at only 10 years of age, and we just want to give him more than hospital time to look forward to.
“He is such a fighter and in America he has now has become a little bit of a local celebrity because of his total fantastic bravery, and his cheerful outlook to all around him.”
