Black Country milkman up for top award

A Black Country milkman is in touching distance of reaching the final of a top competition.

Carl Price, from Wolverhampton, is one of just six to reach the semi-finals of the national competition.

And has secured one of the six coveted semi-final places, with the possibility of being crowned milk&more Milkman of the Year 2017 on April 24.

The competition received a total of 10,000 nominations from customers across England and Wales who nominated their favourite milkman.

The 52-year-old currently serves the Brownhills, Norton Canes, Heath Hayes and Hednesford areas.

He says his favourite part of the job is working outdoors, meeting his customers and the relationships he has built with them throughout his career.

“I am so pleased to be recognised for a job I love, by people I consider friends, he said.

"We’re a team at milk&more, and we are all really focused on the service we provide and our role within the local community.

"It’s my goal to make sure that my customers have everything they need, when they need it, so to be nominated by them means the world to me.”

A milkman for 33 years, he beat off stiff competition from just under 1,200 milk&more milkmen due to his caring nature, reliability and friendly service through numerous nominations received from customers.

Organisers say the competition highlights the role each and every milk&more milkman and woman plays within the local community and illustrates how important the service is.

Ron Rennie, operations manager at milk&more's Wolverhampton depot, said: "Carl is a good lad and a real example to anyone in this industry.

"He goes above and beyond for his customers.

"He has been known to run errands and change the odd lightbulb, that sort of thing.

"In today's society that goes a long way and is appreciated by customers.

"Today being a milk man is so much more than just delivering the milk, you have a real role to play in the community."

Chris Munn, head of marketing at milk&more added: “We believe that our milkmen and women are integral to their communities and we’re thrilled at the response to the competition from our customers.

"We constantly strive to provide a friendly, trustworthy service and it’s thanks to milkmen like Carl that we are proud to continue this tradition.”

Today, customers can order over 200 everyday grocery items including breakfast essentials such as eggs, bacon, bread, cereal and yoghurt.

And milk in glass or plastic bottles, of course.
