The attack took place in Chillington Drive, Codsall, yesterday at around 11.30am.

Police say the Staffordshire bull terrier bit the 58-year-old as she tried to protect her two Dachshunds. Neighbours and passers by are believed to have intervened, pushing the bull terrier into a nearby garden. The victim was taken to hospital where she received a tetanus vaccination.

Staffordshire Police said the dog was handed over by the owner. A spokesman said: "We want to reassure the public that this dog is no longer loose and has been put to sleep."
