Public meetings in Cannock Chase that were launched for residents to quiz council chiefs are set to be scrapped due to poor attendance.

Council chiefs are looking at dropping two community forums in Heath Hayes and Norton Canes.

Maureen Freeman, vice-chairwoman of Cannock Chase District Council, said meetings at Cannock, Rugeley and Hednesford would be retained.

The forums were launched as a public platform on which local residents could air their views and quiz community leaders, including civic and police chiefs.

Councillor Freeman said: "We are looking at cutting them down. There is never a large response at Heath Hayes and Norton Canes and the forums take out a lot of officers' time."

She said council bosses were also considering moving the Cannock meeting from the council chamber to the civic ballroom.

The Hednesford forum recently moved venue from the Museum of Cannock Chase in Valley Road to the Aquarium Ballroom in the town centre to make it more accessible.

Councillor Freeman said: "The council chamber is far too intimidating a venue to hold a community forum. These are not council meetings after all but community events."
