Stephen Greatrix, aged 45, vanished from his home in Rugeley on April 21.

His car was discovered parked near Cannock Chase but extensive searches of the beauty spot found nothing.

On October 23, Staffordshire Police were called to a field off Slitting Mill Road by a member of the public who found a bag and items of clothing.

Police later confirmed these items belonged to Mr Greatrix and the field was cordoned off and a four day search of the area was conducted.

Bones discovered during the search were later confirmed to be those of Mr Greatrix.

An inquest into his death was opened yesterday by deputy coroner Louise McCabe at Cannock Coroner's Court.

His date of death was recorded as October 24 2014 but a post mortem was not possible and a cause of death is unknown.

The inquest is expected to resume in March next year.
