Fire crews from Stafford, Rugeley and Longton attended along with officers from Staffordshire Police and two ambulances.

The road was closed in both directions along the A51 and drivers had to be diverted during the rush hour traffic causing delays.

West Midlands Ambulance spokesman, Steve Parry, said: "The crash involved two cars and the drivers were both trapped and had to be released by fire crews.

"We do not know what injuries they may have sustained at the minute but one of the drivers was taken to University Hospital of North Staffordshire while the other was taken to Stafford Hospital for treatment."
