Five injured in rush hour crashes

A car crashed into a lamppost today, with firefighters called to cut two passengers free.

The smash happened on Kelvin Way at its junction with Trinity Way in West Bromwich at around 6.30am. The car left the road before collided with the last lamppost before Kelvin Way meets Trinity Way, on the roundabout by the Island Inn.

On arrival, fire crews from West Bromwich and Tipton found the driver had already been able to leave the car but its roof needed to be removed to free two other passengers.

One passenger and the driver were put onto long boards by paramedics as they were suffering suspected neck injuries, though none of the three are thought to have suffered serious injuries.

A lane of Kelvin Way was temporarily closed while emergency services were at the scene, though it was cleared by 7.30am. The light was not working after the crash.

Meanwhile, two people were injured in a three-car motorway crash that caused rush hour delays today.

The smash happened on the M54 eastbound between junction 3 for Albrighton and junction 2 for Wolverhampton at around 7.45am. Two women, one believed to be in her 30s and the other in her 50s, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Steve Parry said: "The patients were assessed at the scene and discharged."

All lanes were sealed off while emergency services worked to recover the vehicles leading to delays of around 15 minutes.
