Scott Waites joy for Wolverhampton darts fans

The reigning British Darts Organisation title holder was the feature attraction alongside Professional Darts Corporation pro Jamie Caven.

Some 210 enthusiasts packed into The Cleveland Arms with some punters playing alongside the stars, before they went to head-to-head.

Adie Mason, match marker in the PDC and an accomplished Master of Ceremonies on the exhibition circuit, called the action throughout the evening.

Halifax's Waites, whose parents live in Telford, regularly competes in the PDC'S Grand Slam at Wolverhampton Civic Hall and lost in the final 16-2 to Phil Taylor in 2009.

He then won the tournament in 2010, with a famous comeback from 8-0 down to win 16-12 against James Wade, and agreed the Black Country will always hold good memories.

Waites said: "Wolverhampton has always been good to me, to win the world title, Grand Slam and the BDO World Masters is something that few players can say.

"I am fortunate enough to have done it. I have been at the Cleveland for an exhibition two years in a row now, they love their darts down here and it's always a lot of fun."

Cleveland bar manager William Adamson said: "We have had the likes of Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis, James Wade, Raymond van Barneveld, Gary Anderson and even Bobby George here down the years.

"We try to put on as many events as we can for our regulars and to have Scott, a world champion, and Jamie with admission just £5 proved a great night more than worth the price of a ticket."

Waites won the singles match against Caven, too, 5-3 with three 180s to his opponent's one. The night raised funds for the Poppy Appeal.
