Augusto Zacarias started to panic after hitting the water at the Marl Hole Pool near to the Crooked House pub in Himley, near Wolverhampton, on July 25 last year.

A jury at Smethwick Coroners Court today heard a group of his friends had desperately tried to rescue him from the water.

But the 15-year-old's struggles had started to drag them under the water as well.

The inquest heard they had managed to get him to the side of the pool but in his fear, Augusto had pushed himself away from the edge.

Others went to get help but the teenager eventually disappeared under the water.

Consultant pathologist at Russells Hall Hospital Swapna Ghosh, who carried out the post mortem on Augusto gave the medical cause of death as drowning.

The inquest continues.
