Person dies after being hit by train in Smethwick

A man was killed when he was hit by a train near Smethwick. He was struck near Smethwick Rolfe Street station at around 5.30pm yesterday.

Paramedics and officers from British Transport Police attended the scene but the man could not be revived, and he was declared dead.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to Smethwick Rolfe Street station following a report of a man being hit by a train. BTP and West Midlands Police attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 5.40pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious."

The man's family have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Anthony Hogan, aged 27 and from Finchfield, was travelling on the Cross Country service at the time.

Services between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton, were affected.
