Former Smethwick council building scheme
A former council building in Smethwick will be bulldozed to make way for a modern medical centre, under new plans.
It comes just months after a charity was refused permission to build a three storey £11 million multi-use medical centre further down High Street.
This new application will see the former Sandwell Social Services building on High Street flattened to make way for the proposed centre and chemist. The centre will also have 19 car parking spaces.
The report by architects P W Peacock states the existing building is currently unused and is in a poor state of repair and it is more economically viable to demolish the building rather than have it refurbished.
The report states that applicant Mr Uday Savani of Savani Properties wants the building to be fitted with green technology and will use solar roof panels to reduce the carbon footprint.
The report to council planners states: "An integral part of the medical practice will be a dispensing chemist which will also have an element of retail use for the sale of non prescription drugs, health and beauty products."
