Opening of Rugeley Tesco to bring 300 jobs
Three hundred jobs will be created in Rugeley when Tesco opens its new superstore later this year.
Bosses said work on the new store in Power Station Road will begin in the next few weeks ready for a predicted opening of September 30
The 40,000 sq ft supermarket on the former Celcon factory was given planning permission just over two years ago but there has been a wait while other projects in Stafford and Hednesford were completed.
It will include a restaurant, petrol station and free parking for up to three hours when it opens.
Jonathan Simpson, corporate affairs manager for Tesco, said today: "We're proud to be investing in the area. Our Hednesford store is proving to be very popular.
"We are due to start construction in the coming weeks but I can't give anything further at this stage."
Angi Cooney, of Rugeley Traders Association, said they were pleased so many jobs were being created but there were concerns over how the store would affect business for other shops.
