Phones can be used for parking fees in Stafford
Drivers in Stafford and Stone can now use their mobile phones to pay for parking. Stafford Borough Council has rolled out the scheme on its car parks following a successful pilot in four locations.
The "pay by phone" system gives mobile phone users, as well as people with tablets or iPads, a flexible way of paying by credit or debit card.
Council bosses say that it has the added benefit of allowing top ups, which are of particular help when people are running late.
Motorists will also be able to get reminders to their phones to let them know how much time they have left for parking.
Cashless systems are already in use in many towns and cities across the country but borough chiefs are also committed to keeping the cash option available to motorists in the area.
To use the system, drivers need to sign up online at www.dashpark.com or by calling 0845 6800104.
Once registered people can pay for their parking by telephone call or text message.
Signs will be going up in car parks shortly with instructions on how to use the new pay by phone system.
The system will be available in all borough council-run sites apart from the short-stay Sainsbury's car park off Doxey Road.
