Firms share in £90m construction projects
Construction projects worth almost £90 million, including new sports facilities, care homes and schools, will be built across Staffordshire over the next four years.
County council bosses have struck deals with 10 contractors, including two Staffordshire-based construction companies, over the new builds. The details of the schemes are being kept under wraps at the moment but construction bosses today welcomed the news. Rugeley-based firm G Evans, in Towers Business Park, has landed education project work.
Managing director Jonathan Gough said: "This is very good news for Rugeley and for companies here.
"This continues a long standing relationship with the council. We are always looking to employ people, we are hopeful we would be able to do this when the work comes."
The new projects will be worth £88m in total. A previous similar deal saw the building of Stafford Children's Centre, in Farraday Road; a library and community hub, in Norton Canes; the rebuild of Landywood Primary School, in Great Wyrley, and a biomass facility at Chase Terrace Primary School.
County Councillor Mark Winnington, cabinet member for environment and assets said today: "All of the successfully appointed contractors represent the best value for money for the county council and Staffordshire taxpayers.
"Many of the companies are local and use the local workforce, further reinforcing our support for local businesses."
Thomas Vale Construction Ltd, which has a base, in Newport Road, Stafford, will also carry out work along with Wolverhampton's Arthur M Griffiths and Son which has a £1.5m deal.
