Memorial to riot victims unveiled
A memorial to mark the lives of three men who died in the August riots that rocked the region last summer has been unveiled in Smethwick.

Wolverhampton, West Bromwich and Birmingham were affected by the disorder and Haroon Jahan, 21, and brothers Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir, 31, were hit by a car and died in Winson Green. Yesterday a new memorial dedicated to the three men, as well as those people that were affected by the events, was unveiled in Victoria Park.
The memorial is made up of three lamp posts, each one dedicated to one of the young men, and a memorial bench engraved with the words "from the community, for the community." The £12,000 tribute was designed by schoolchildren and commissioned by the Cape Hill branch of Asda.
Store manager John Perry said: "The events of last year were devastating to Haroon, Shazad, Abdul, their families and our community. We want this memorial to serve in their memory."
