Four people were injured and a scooter rider seriously hurt in two separate crashes. The driver of the scooter suffered head injuries in a collision.

The accident involved a car in Browning Street, Stafford.

It happened outside the doctor's surgery and staff came out to provide emergency treatment.

Meanwhile, a car lost control and spun off the road in Walsall, hitting a tree and several fences as it went. The Vauxhall Astra lost control while travelling along Bentley Lane in Birchills at 3.30am today.

Four of the five male passengers in the car suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Walsall Fire Station crew manager John Haynes said: "The car had veered off and collided with a tree. There were five people in the car. The bonnet was gone and part of the front wheel was on the other side of the road."

The Stafford crash happened at 1pm yesterday. A red Hyundai I20 crashed with the red and white 125cc scooter. Police were forced to close the road for more than two hours.

The 21-year-old rider of the scooter was taken by air ambulance to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the car did not require hospital treatment.
