Poundland, Willenhall, in big jobs booster
Poundland today announced that it will create 2,000 new jobs in the next year.
The Willenhall-based firm reported turnover grew 21.6 per cent to £780 million in the year to April 1.
Profit before tax was up 26.5 per cent to £40.1m.
Chief executive Jim McCarthy said: "Poundland continues to offer amazing value to over four million customers every week.
"Our strong sales and volume increases demonstrate that customers recognise the exceptional value for money that Poundland offers.
The chain opened 62 new stores last year, including its biggest branch in Wolverhampton, creating 1,500 jobs.
At least 60 new stores will open in the UK and Ireland within the current financial year – 22 are already open – creating the 2,000 new jobs.
A 200,000 sq ft south eastern distribution centre will open in August at Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
The warehouse will be used to service its stores throughout southern England.
