A youth centre in Rugeley went up in flames following a break in by arsonists.
Clouds of dense smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles, as 25 firefighters battled to control the flames.
Crews were at the scene for more than five hours after the alert was raised at around 9.45pm yesterday.
Watch commander Dave Williams said the disused building in Hislop Road, which had been boarded up for six months, had been deliberately set alight.
