A derelict Black Country cinema is being transformed into a 1,000 capacity nightclub creating more than 30 jobs, it emerged today.

The former Danilo cinema, in Dudley Road, Brierley Hill, will become Pulse nightclub after it changed hands for £150,000.

The new owners say they hope the nightclub will re-create the atmosphere of Dudley's legendary JB's club.

The landmark art deco style building is steeped in history having played host to singer and ukulele star George Formby at its opening in 1936.

The Danilo cinema lasted until February 22, 1969. It became a nightclub known as Eclipse, then as Oxygen and lastly as The Deep, before closing down about three years ago. It was sold at auction recently.
