Owners of a quarry on the Staffordshire border have been warned to stop dust swamping nearby homes after a local businessman complained that his £1.2 million house had been shrouded in a "blizzard" of grit.

Millionaire Tony Whittaker, owner of the Delph Road Industrial Estate in Brierley Hill and a property developer, lives next door to the quarry, run by FG Davis, in Enville Road, Wall Heath.

He called out officers from South Staffordshire District Council's environmental health department last Friday after dust clouds swept across his property and on to other homes.

"It was like a blizzard," said 60-year-old Mr Whittaker. He has pledged £2,000 to finance the costs of professional consultants preparing the case against proposals from FG Davis for a second sand and gravel quarry in the area.

"Nobody would be able to put their washing out, cars are covered in the dust and I dread to think about children inhaling it," he added.
