Bailed Greek island death suspect Luke Walker was today denied a chance to return to the Black Country to await trial.

Walker, aged 23, hoped to return to Brierley Hill on bail but the prosecutor today said the condition forcing him to remain in Greece would be upheld. The family plans to appeal.

Walker is accused of causing the death of girlfriend, Chelsea Hyndman, by actual bodily harm, which he denies. His father, Patrick, who returned to Crete at the weekend for his son's birthday, said they were "devastated."

"The prosecutor couldn't see why Luke couldn't get a job in Malia — she didn't understand that we are struggling financially," he said.

"There is no work in Malia at this time of year, it all depends on tourism, and that won't start up again until March."

They have spent about £55,000 in legal fees and living costs since Walker's May arrest, plus travel between England and Crete, and had to remortgage their house.
