A two-month-old baby boy has died and a woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a hit and run car crash in Smethwick.
It happened at 6.11pm on Saturday on Grove Lane at the junction with Painters Corner between a Mitsubishi Evolution and Toyota Corolla.
All five occupants of the Corolla were from the Smethwick area.
The 24-year-woman remains at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition and is believed to be a family friend.
A man aged 27, a woman aged 26 and a man aged 69, believed to be the baby's parents and grandfather were taken to Sandwell Hospital with serious injuries where they also remain.
Detectives are now hunting for the driver and occupants of the Mitsubishi who fled the scene before police arrived.
The baby was thrown from vehicle during the crash, however detectives today refused to confirm whether or not he was in a car seat.
It is believed at least three people travelling in the Mitsubishi, all left the scene following the collision prior to police attendance.
The Mitsubishi, which has a registration of R54 RMW, currently has no registered owner.
