A Black Country man accused of beating his girlfriend to death in Crete has been granted bail.

After 150 days behind bars, Luke Walker, aged 22, from Brierley Hill, was today expected to be released after his family handed over up to £15,000 bail money to the Greek courts.

Greek police arrested him in May on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend of three years Chelsea Hyndman, aged 20, in a fit of "jealous rage". His father Patrick, who flew out to Crete late last night, said the family was "over the moon".

They were due to meet the solicitor at 12.30pm local time to hand over the bail money and get the release papers. "We're over the moon — it has been a long fight but we've got there," he said.

"Luke doesn't know what to do with himself — he can't believe it has actually happened. It's just wonderful."

He said his son had not slept all night in anticipation of finally being released.

Miss Hyndman, from Castleford, Yorkshire, died in intensive care after an emergency operation for ruptured internal organs, which Greek doctors claimed were caused by physical violence.

However, Walker claims she was hurt when she fell heavily down some stairs on a girls' night out.
