Motorists living along a stretch of road which passes through Great Wyrley say they are at their wits' end after counting the cost of yet another spate of vandal attacks on their vehicles.

Residents living on Walsall Road say they have been plagued by vandals for around two years and that attacks are on the increase. The affected residents who live between the junctions of Jacob's Hall Lane and Wharwell Lane say there are not enough parking facilities.

They are then forced to leave their cars parked on the side of the road.

They say cars have been stolen, tyres slashed, cars scratched, windows smashed and locks glued.

One family has been forced to pay out almost £3,000 to repair the damage caused to their cars over the past 18 months.

Carol Smallman, who has lived on Walsall Road for over 40 years, said: "The parking situation has got much worse over the past two years. I once left my car parked on the roadside and when I went to use it the next day it had gone. It was eventually found burnt-out in Walsall.

"Because we don't have parking facilities with our houses we have to park on the road, sometimes away from our homes and we can't keep an eye on our vehicles.

"We have asked for a meeting with the Highways Agency to try and think of a solution to the problem but as yet we have heard nothing."

Councillor Tom Lowe, chairman of Great Wyrley Parish Council, said he would try and arrange a meeting with police in a bid to end the vandalism.

He said: "This is something which has been going on for some time and something needs to be done."
