An elderly woman suffered head injuries when she was knocked down on a town centre car park.

The accident happened at around 10.45am yesterday in the disabled section of the Forge Road car park in Rugeley, at the rear of Morrisons supermarket.

The 80-year-old woman from Brereton, who may also have suffered a hip injury, was hit at low speed by a red Ford Ka driven by an 81-year-old local man.

She was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board and taken to Stafford Hospital. Her injuries turned out to be minor and she was released yesterday.

Officers cordoned off the area of the accident following the collision.

Staffordshire Police spokeswoman Carol Evans said: "Any witnesses to the collision to contact PC Ian Stokes at Rugeley police station on 0300 123 44 55."
