A handful of jobs at a food supplier's threatened Lichfield distribution depot have been saved after staff were found new positions at its Cannock operation – but union bosses fear redundancies are still "inevitable".

A consultation on the possible closure of 3663 First for Foodservice's Fradley Park site – with the potential loss of more than 220 – jobs, is underway following the loss of a £100 million contract with Burger King to DHL.

But it has emerged that six staff have been transferred to new positions at the firm's depot in Cannock, and there is a possibility of three more spots becoming available. Workers at Lichfield will also be able to apply for other UK posts.

Union Unite says that while redundancies at Lichfield appear inevitable, the move bodes well for the future of the firm's operations in Cannock.
