Part of the M6 in Staffordshire was closed for the second time in two days today after a lorry crashed spilling its load across the carriageway.

It followed a dramatic crash near the same scene yesterday when a teenager was hurled on to the central reservation from a car that had rolled over.

Two lanes of the M6 were closed in both directions today after the lorry carrying milk, eggs and bread crashed into the central reservation on the southbound carriageway between Junctions 13 and 14 at Stafford at around 4.40am

One lane in both directions was re-opened at 7.15am but the rest remained closed while teams cleaned up and repaired the central reservation.

Tailbacks from the accident stretched over nine miles on the southbound carriageway. The driver was not badly hurt.

The 16-year-old injured in yesterday's accident, at about 8.30am between the same junctions, was airlifted to hospital with a severe head injury. The driver escaped serious injury.

On Saturday night a driver badly injured when the Vauxhall Corsa he was travelling in collided with a tree near Rugeley. The car lost control on the A51 near its junction with Hood Lane, Longdon, at around 8.45pm.
