The media giant wants to close its help centre at The Waterfront in Brierley Hill.

But bosses have revealed 150 new positions could be created under plans to centralise the firm's technical support department.

Workers were called to a meeting at the site at 2pm yesterday where they were told about the proposals. A 90-day consultation involving all 322 customer services staff affected is under way.

The firm's West Midlands spokesman Rebecca Burke said there could be a chance for staff to be transferred.

Neil Berkett, CEO of Virgin Media said: "Although this is a difficult message for our staff, we felt it only right to share our plans with them as soon as they were finalised.

"As part of these proposals, there are a number of redeployment opportunities and our priority now is to support our people, whilst minimising the need for redundancies where possible." The news follows an announcement in March that the Waterfront telesales department could close by July putting 126 jobs at risk."
