Nursery is simply the nest
A robin who set up home at a Black Country nursery has returned with some new additions after her first family flew the nest.
It is the second time the birds have nested in the garden of Brierley Hill Children's Centre, in Parkes Road, Brierley Hill.
And the gardeners' favourite birds are giving the youngsters a close-up lesson in nature.
A feathered family had already set up home in a tyre swing in the garden earlier in the year.
Children, aged between six months and four-years-old, looked after the nest and were allowed to watch them from a distance.
But after the young flew the nest, the robins returned to nest in a green felt costume hat that had been stored in there.
Deputy manager Chris Ullah, aged 58, has worked at the centre for five years. He said: "We thought we had lost the chance to see the robins after they disappeared from their nest in the tyre.
"But after the children spotted the bird flying around, we discovered that the mother was sitting on a fresh batch of eggs."
Staff have decided to keep activities away from the new location so that the eggs can hatch without the children disturbing the birds too much. "I wouldn't have even thought the birds would set up home here considering the noise and shouting from the children playing," she said.
