A man could lose his sight in one eye and had to have 19 stitches to his face after he was glassed by thugs in a Dudley pub, police revealed today.

Another victim suffered a nasty gash when a snooker cue was smashed over his head.

Violence erupted at 10.25pm on karaoke night at The Laurel, in Stourbridge Road, Brierley Hill.

A 53-year-old man spent two days in hospital being treated for his injuries and it is still in the balance whether he will lose the sight in his left eye.

A 31-year-old was not kept in hospital overnight following the assault on Monday.

Police appealed for witnesses, and believe a group of Asian men were behind the unprovoked attack.

Det Con Paul Chambers, of Dudley CID, said: "This was a very vicious and cowardly attack. Hitting people with snooker cues and using glasses as weapons is no doubt going to cause injury.

"There was a disagreement between the two victims and an Asian group of males."

"The older of the two has had 19 stitches in an eye wound, and we believe he was glassed. There was no glass in his eye, but he could still lose his sight in that eye.

"The other man had quite a severe head wound."

He added: "We want to hear from anyone who was in the pub at the time."

Anyone with information should call West Midlands Police on 0845 113 5000 and ask for CID at Dudley.
