The star-studded line-up for this year's V Festival at Weston Park was revealed today – and it is set to be the biggest and best in the spectacular's 12-year history.

The Killers, Foo Fighters and Snow Patrol have all been signed up to headline the extravaganza, which attracts 80,000 fans and this year boasts one of the greatest line-ups of any UK summer music festival.

Midland-band Kasabian, songstress Pink and indie rockers James were among 24 acts announced by festival bosses today, who say it will be one of the most exciting in the event's history.

The Kooks, Manic Street Preachers, James Morrison, Primal Scream and KT Tunstall will all be making a sensational return to the region for the extravaganza, which will take place on August 18 and 19.

The calibre of the line-up is also a testimony to how Wolverhampton's Civic Hall has grown in stature, with many of the bands announced including The Killers having played the 3,000-capacity city venue. More than 80 bands and singers will take to five stages over the weekend, which generates millions of pounds in economy for the area.

Glasgow group The Fratellis, who played a storming gig at Wulfrun Hall last year, and singer-songwriter Damien Rice, whose Wolverhampton concert next month has sold out, will also be performing in the grounds of the stately home.

V Festival director Bob Angus said: "Building the V Festival line-up is without a doubt one of the best times of the year for us and securing The Killers and Foo Fighters – two of the biggest and best live bands – as headliners is a real achievement.

"In addition to these and the other great acts announced today, we're building the momentum and are confident that it won't be long before some more great names are announced."

American singing sensation Pink, dance duo Basement Jaxx and Brit award winner Amy Winehouse will also be starring in the 48-hour musical marathon.

Controversial rocker Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles and Manchester indie group the Happy Mondays will be joining in the spectacular. The Mondays will be bringing freaky dancer Bez, who starred in Big Brother, with them.

Also announced today were Scottish stars Paolo Nutini and The Proclaimers, four-piece band Editors, chart-topper Mika, Sophie Ellis Bextor, The Fray and The Goo Goo Dolls.

The V festival takes place at two sites, Weston Park and Chelmsford in Essex. All the bands play both sites, travelling between the two over the weekend. Last year tickets sold out in less than three hours as music lovers clamoured to see the likes of Keane, Razorlight and The Charlatans.

The show also pulls in more than £50,000 for local charities each year.

It is not yet known on which days acts will play this year, details of which will be announced in the next few weeks. Tickets go on sale on Thursday.

They are priced £130 for a weekend pass with camping, £110 without camping, and £63.50 for a day ticket. They can be bought at either www.vfestival.com, www. gigsandtours.com, or by calling 0870 120 2224.
