Annual bonfire event cancelled due to coronavirus
The annual council-run bonfire and fireworks event in Bromsgrove has been cancelled this year due to coronavirus.
The Bromsgrove District Council event, at Sanders Park, attracts thousands of visitors each year and the scale of it means officers start planning and preparation weeks in advance.
Instead the events team has been looking at alternative entertainment and events, like the drive-in cinema, which meets the social distancing rules.
The council's leisure chief, Councillor Philip Thomas, said: “Of course we may see a change in the guidance between now and November, but it’s unlikely that thousands of people will be allowed to congregate in one area.
“While we know the event is extremely popular, we have had to put the safety of our residents and staff first and so made the tough decision to cancel it for this year.
“Our team will be concentrating on creating other events which can be enjoyed safely.”
The drive-in cinema is on from August 21 to 23.
