Right royal surprise visitor thrills Wolverhampton history fair fans

Visitors to a history fair had a right royal day when 'King Charles I' paid a visit to Wolverhampton almost four centuries after his first trip.

Among the attractions at the event held at Wolverhampton Archives, was re-enactor Daniel Williams, who turned out in style in costume and dressed up to depict the monarch who stayed at the city's old Star & Garter public house in 1642.

The well-attended local history fair at the archives at Molineux Hotel Building, in Whitmore Hill, featured many stalls including organisers the Friends of Wolverhampton Archives, West Midlands Police Museum, the Western Front Association, Wolverhampton Archaeology Group, Birmingham Museums, the Lace Guild based in Stourbridge and volunteers based at the National Trust's Moseley Old Hall.
