More than £2,000 raised for Light House cinema in Wolverhampton
More than £2,000 has been raised to help a struggling independent cinema in Wolverhampton reopen after the Covid-19 lockdown.
Light House in the centre of Wolverhampton has not reopened – or set a date to reopen – after lockdown, despite other cinemas reopening.
It has led to the venue launching a £10,000 fundraiser – named Help Us Switch The Lights Back On – to cover costs associated with making the venue Covid-safe.
But now it has raised more than £2,000 on the platform, with the cinema thanking its supporters for their help.
A spokesman for the Light House said: "So grateful to everyone that has helped us break the £2,000 barrier in less than two days on our Crowdfunder to Help Us Switch The Lights Back On.
"A long way still to go, but what a start."
The charity has been working with local business EnPro Group to investigate what is required for keeping its auditoriums and social spaces Covid-secure.
The independent cinema, based in the Chubb Buildings in Fryer Street, has been closed since lockdown began in March and has stayed shut despite venues now being allowed to open.
