The Newhampton Arts centre has not let lockdown stop it from running its annual painting challenge

Paint the Day is an annual event organised by Newhampton Arts Centre in Wolverhampton and which is open to visual artists of all levels and practices, from professional to amateur.

Previous events have taken place within the centre, but the centre currently closed due to lockdown restrictions, the challenge has moved to a virtual setting.

The event, which takes place on Saturday, June 27, will challenge participants to create an art-piece in one day, using their own home as a starting point.

Participants can use any type of art medium they want to interpret the scene in any visual style they want, so long as they can digitally submit their entries to the centre.

An online exhibition of all entries will be up on Sunday, June 28, and a physical exhibition at NAC of the originals will follow in the autumn when prizes will be awarded.

More than £500 will be available in prize money including for overall First Prize, Photography, U-18 and Public Vote.

All artwork must be submitted online to Newhampton Arts Centre with a chance to drop off physical work, once the centre is back open, in preparation for a physical exhibition in autumn, if government guidelines allow.

Paint the Day 2020 advance tickets costs £5 for adults, £2 for children, £10 for a family of four and, from 12 noon on Fri June 26th, £7.50 for adults, £4 for children and £15 for a family of four.
