My Festival was due to take place at Starworks Warehouse, near St John's Retail Park in Wolverhampton on Saturday and Sunday.

But yesterday, the venue announced that the Sunday event, which was set to attract more than 4,000 people, had been cancelled.

Finance director Ryan McGillicuddy said negotiations with Wolverhampton council over the use of an outside area had fallen through.

He said: "My Festival had been planning the event for 4 months the local authority wanted more planning time.

"They let us know around 10 days ago and My Festival have been negotiating through their legal advisers since then but Monday they accepted a resolution could not be met."

Artists due to play on the Sunday included Yungen, Wstrn, Charlie Sloth, Jamie Duggan, Nathan Barato and Artikal.

Organisers say those who booked tickets for Sunday will get full refunds.

The following statement was issued on Twitter:

Saturday prices have now been reduced.

On the acts no longer appearing on Sunday, Mr McGillicuddy said: They are all performing at Starworks in a few weeks. Dates to be announced soon."

The venue is based in Frederick Street.

Acts to appear on Saturday include Rudimental, Big Narstie, Secondcity, Blonde and Josh Butler.

The event will take over the venue's car park, warehouse, factory, engine room, Sunshine Terrace, Disco Den, VIP Village and will see a street closed off for various stages.

Wolverhampton council gave permission for it to host 10 club nights in its first year.

The Grade II-listed building, originally known as Moxley Foundry, used to house The Star Motor Company, one of the first mass production car companies in the UK.

The site dates back to 1903.

At its peak it produced more than 1,000 cars per year.

The ‘U-shaped’ perimeter of the building consists of a two-storey brick built structure featuring a striking pitched roof and a vast open centre area, with a single storey series of glazed pitched roofs supported on a raw steel framework.

Among the acts to have performed at the venue are Lethal Bizzle, Sigma and PJ Harvey.

Mr McGillicuddy added: "My Festival organisers are already planning next year's festival to ensure My Festival doesn’t have any further issues."
