The former One Direction star appeared on CBS' Late Late Show last night, speaking about his decision to name his son Bear.

The Bushbury star, aged 24, was jokingly wound-up by host James, who suggested the child should have been named after him.

"There was a very definite time when you promised me that your first-born would be named after me," said the Gavin and Stacey star.

Watch the interview here:

"The name that we all agree is the best name in the world - James.

"Can you tell everyone what you've called your son and explain why it wasn't (after) me and where your name came from."

In response, Liam replied: "I'm surrounded by Jameses.

"So you can't really be the first James any more, can you? It's not possible.

"So the only logical thing to do was to call him Bear."

When asked by James where the name came from, Liam added: "When he was born - one of the midwives said it - he had this thing where if they don't have a good cry they get fluid on their lungs, which is quite serious, so he was like going 'grrrr' when he was sleeping.

"So I had specialists running in and out of hospital while my missus was asleep.

"He was being checked over, they were like 'we're not really sure, get somebody else in'. I had like 10 doctors come in the room and in the end the guy was just like 'dude, I'm not being funny, there's nothing wrong with him, he just likes to make a lot of noise'.

"And that's carried on ever since, so he just became bear.

"And children live out their name, you know what I mean? He's humongous."

After the explanation, James congratulated Liam on the birth, adding: "I'm so happy for you both. That's amazing."
