Early spring clean on record model hoard
A model mad couple have started to spring clean their record breaking collection.
Geoff and Linda Price’s home in Walsall is home to 14,866 different model buses, trams and trolleybuses, named in the Guiness Book of World Records as the largest collection in the world.
Geoff, 70, has been collecting the toys since he was just eight-years-old.
When he and Linda, 65, married in 1973 their collection was made up of 423 models.
The couple have been collecting together for almost 50 years and now have three rooms, a double garage and large loft space full of the collectables.
Linda retired from her job at Sandwell Council as a PA in May 2020 and has now undertaken the mammoth task of cleaning all of their collection.
She said: “During lockdown it has given me something to do when we’re stuck at home. We keep adding but don’t clear it out as often. I’ve done two rooms so far and I’ve quite enjoyed it, you have to take your time over it.
"These are things we have had for years and years, Geoff has always been more involved than me but I want to learn more about it now.”
The couple have travelled all over the globe to find new items for their collection.
Geoff said: “We have been to America, Sri Lanka, Europe, Gambia.
“We have had some very interesting holidays and met some very interesting people, some of our friends also bring things back for us too.
“The cabinets are floor to ceiling so they do get dusty and everything needs to be removed and dusted. It is a massive task."
