New poetry collection aims to bring hope to public
A Black Country poet has created a new collection inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ian Henery, who was Walsall’s first poet laureate between 2011 and 2015, has written “Poems of Hope”, a collection which includes works on Covid-19 and social distancing and poems about Norse characters.
Mr Henery said the work was wide-ranging, with other pieces dedicated to his daughter, his partner and Walsall and spoke about how the collection came about.
He said: “These are poems that have been tried and tested in virtual poetry performances during lockdown on WebEx, Facebook and Zoom platforms around the world.
“I have been very active poetry-wise during lockdown, but it’s my 15-year-old daughter Grace who has kept me sane.
“We went on long walks together, she has sorted out all of my technical issues with Zoom, Facebook and social media and she even got the manuscript ready for publication. The book is dedicated to her because she is amazing.”
